Our Approach
Our approach to art therapy is one of paying attention to the whole of our nature.True well- being can only be achieved through nurturing the body, mind, spirit and soul, and this is why we refer to art therapy as being holistic. The creative process of art therapy allows for all aspects of ourselves to be tended to. It can support recovery from traumatic experiences, addictive behaviour, illnesses- both medical and psychological, and can increase your sense of well-being or life force. It can help you to form and maintain better relationships, as you become more self- aware and grow as an individual. Whatever your challenge, Art Therapy can help.
Person- Centred and Person -Led
You are unique and you are enough, just as you are. As Carl Rogers has said, people are as wonderful as sunsets, if we let them “be”. In art therapy you are freed to express your true self and learn how to live in your own skin, with acceptance, allowing life to unfold. The art therapist is guided by you and in a reciprocal way, supports and guides you in your chosen focus and expressed needs.
Awesomely, this commitment to self and to the values and ethics you hold, creates positive change in you, which spreads throughout your life, your family, your support network, your community. As J. Peterson explains, a worthy aim is to have a meaningful life, so we learn to live by what we truly believe in, using our ethical compass. Then to act accordingly.
Connection with Nature
Connecting with the natural world is of profound importance to our mental health. With ongoing climate change challenges much talked about, many of us are bewildered. Yet nature is a wisdom teacher for us, and when working with natural materials, the sensory connections we feel, and the rich metaphors we find, can be of great comfort and guidance.
The Creative Path
The creative path can lead to understanding, meaning making, balance, clarity and insight, joy and transformation, as the caterpillar humbly transforms into the winged beauty of the butterfly.
